Each year the team at MMP chooses a charity to get behind. For 2020, against a very tough year with the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, putting the NHS front line staff under an unprecedented challenge, MMP chose to raise funds for the NHS and in particular 'NHS Charities Together' Covid-19 appeal
The charity supports NHS frontline staff and patients impacted by Covid-19 across the country. It provides vital bereavement support, and funds emergency volunteers, amongst many other activities.
MMP organised a fundraising event for each quarter of the financial year. These included hosting virtual quizzes, completing sporting challenges, and purchasing personal items for hospital patients. The employees at MMP made a fantastic effort to support the community by assisting this worthwhile charity.
The fund-raising events we held in 2020:
The first NHS Charities Together fundraising event we held was a Virtual Pub Quiz. It took place on April 24, 2020 and we raised £355. The fun evening saw five rounds of questions with the topic for each round designed by different members of the MMP team. There was a music round as well as anagrams, pictures, connections and general knowledge.
Another fund-raising event held last year was an outdoor sports challenge, socially distanced and in between the country lock downs. This saw us raise £1,470 from donations made by friends and family. This took place over the first weekend in October 2020.
Each MMP Tax employee set their own challenge. These challenges included a 5-kilometre run, a 10-kilometre run, a walk to London bridge and Tower bridge as well as long cycle rides.
One employee cycled 100km on a Turbo Trainer in a day, which took over six hours to complete (with a couple of breaks in between).
Another employee rode the distance from London all the way to Brighton (an astonishing 85km!) on a single-speed bike and in poor weather. This was a huge challenge, particularly as there were no gears to help on the steep hills. Click here for more details on his impressive achievement.
MMP Tax's founding directors were not exempt from these physical feats of endurance, with both rising to the challenge admirably. Alexis Marz completed a 10 Kilometre run in scrubs, while David Marshall rolled back the years and played his guitar for two hours straight!
In December, the MMP Tax staff all generously donated to Homerton Hospital's Christmas Wish List. Everyone made a personal contribution towards the purchasing of items from the set wish list. These included origami sets, fidget sticks, colouring books and pencils. The items were then made available to patients spending Christmas in hospital, in an effort to bring some joy to the ward over the festive season.
Especially during this year of Covid-19, the employees at MMP Tax felt it was important to show their support to the key workers in the NHS for their exceptional services in more than a one-off event. We wanted to do what we could to help those who are doing so much for us all. It was also a fun way for the team to come together (virtually) and stay active during this extended time of remote working.
We're now considering our choice of charity for this new financial year. If you have any suggestions, by all means please do get in touch
